The honest summary

Submagic is a caption-first editor for short videos, known for animated caption styles, B-roll, filler and silence removal, translation and scheduling. Turning a long video into clips is Magic Clips, sold as an add-on on top of a plan.

When Submagic fits better

You mostly edit videos that are already short and want stylised animated captions, B-roll, translation and posting from one editor.

When Skapo fits better

Your source is a full podcast or interview and you want the clips found, every speaker framed and captions burned in, on every plan, without buying a separate clipping add-on.

Skapo vs Submagic FAQ

Can Submagic turn a full podcast into clips?

Yes, through Magic Clips, which its help centre prices as a $19 a month add-on for 10 uploads on top of a Submagic plan, taking 10 to 25 minutes per video. Skapo does long-video clipping on every tier, including free, usually in about 10 minutes, with the measured medians on its benchmarks page.

Is Submagic or Skapo better for captions?

For caption styling, Submagic: it is a caption editor first, with more animated styles, emoji, B-roll and translation. Skapo burns word-level captions in safe zones clear of platform buttons, in the right script for Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai and Devanagari, with nine caption styles on every plan, free included. If captions are the product, pick Submagic; if finding and framing the clips is, pick Skapo.

Does Submagic keep both speakers on screen?

Submagic documents face tracking for Magic Clips but no split-screen or stacked multi-speaker layouts. Skapo detects 2 to 4 speakers and splits the frame while they share the shot, then frames whoever is talking when the edit cuts to one person, which is what interview and panel podcasts usually need.

Which is cheaper, Submagic or Skapo?

For short videos, Submagic: Starter is $19 a month, or $12 billed yearly, for 15 videos of up to 2 minutes. For long episodes the comparison changes, because clipping a full podcast needs the Magic Clips add-on on top of a plan, while Skapo Freelancer Pro is $39 a month for 15 hours of source video with clipping included.

Does Skapo cut clips mid-sentence?

It tries not to, and it shows you where every cut sits. Skapo aims each clip at one line to open on and one to close on, and starts it on a whole word. Open "How this clip was built" on any clip and you see the opening line and where the clip sits in the episode. If an end runs long, trim it in the clip editor and only that clip re-renders. To move an edge outward, export the clip as a Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve timeline against your original video (paid plans, or after the EUR 8.99 clean-export unlock).

Try Skapo on your own footage

Up to four speakers framed, captions that never get covered, clips aimed at one whole point, and your shorts usually ready in about 10 minutes. Private by default, kept on the clock your plan sets.
