The honest summary

Descript is a powerful, text-based video and audio editor with transcription, overdub, and a clip feature. It is excellent when you want hands-on control of the full edit, not just shorts.

When Descript fits better

You want a complete editing suite for full episodes, with text-based editing, overdub, and fine manual control over every cut.

When Skapo fits better

You only want the shorts, fully automated, with speaker framing and captions done for you and nothing to assemble by hand.

Skapo vs Descript FAQ

Is Skapo a replacement for Descript?

Not exactly. Descript is a full editor for producing entire episodes; Skapo is a focused, automated pipeline for generating shorts. Many creators edit the main episode elsewhere and use Skapo purely to spin up the vertical clips.

Which is faster for making shorts, Descript or Skapo?

Skapo is faster for shorts because it selects moments, reframes vertically, and captions automatically, usually in about 10 minutes, whereas in Descript you review and finish clips inside the editor, even when Underlord suggests them.

Does Skapo do text-based editing like Descript?

For single clips, yes. Every clip opens in a text-first editor: cut a sentence out of the transcript, trim the ends or fix a word, and only that clip re-renders. It is not a full episode editor like Descript, though. There is no overdub, and you do not edit the whole show in it.

Can Skapo handle multi-speaker interviews better than Descript?

For automated output, yes. Skapo detects up to 4 speakers and splits the frame on its own while they share the shot, then goes back to framing the person talking when the edit cuts to one. In Descript you would set up multi-speaker layouts manually.

Does Skapo cut clips mid-sentence?

It tries not to, and it shows you where every cut sits. Skapo aims each clip at one line to open on and one to close on, and starts it on a whole word. Open "How this clip was built" on any clip and you see the opening line and where the clip sits in the episode. If an end runs long, trim it in the clip editor and only that clip re-renders. To move an edge outward, export the clip as a Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve timeline against your original video (paid plans, or after the EUR 8.99 clean-export unlock).

Try Skapo on your own footage

Up to four speakers framed, captions that never get covered, clips aimed at one whole point, and your shorts usually ready in about 10 minutes. Private by default, kept on the clock your plan sets.
